Txuba

Kel txuba, kel txuba,
Kel txuba ta kai.
Kabu Verdi ta labanta.
Ta sai di kel mar
De nasimentu di umanidade.
Kel txuba ta ben,
Kel txuba ta bai,
Spiritu di kabu Verdi
Ka ta kaba.

Rain

The rain, the rain.
The rain falls.
Cabo Verde arises.
Arises, out of the sea
of humanity?s birth.
The rains may come,
the rains may go.
The spirit of Cabo Verde
Will never die.
Vasco Pires, 1997

The People of Cabo Verde

A nation of people
Forged on the anvil of colonialism
Becoming the bridge
Spanning the ocean
Of humanity.
Wave upon wave
Determined spirits
Cultural roots
That cannot be denied.
To the future they do provide
dignity and pride.
1997, Capt. Vasco Pires
